After sublimating the art of the trio with his own personal style, pianist Martin Salemi blows his vision open. Here he comes with a quintet, ready to deliver his stories, as intimate and melancholic as they are joyful and spirited. New ensemble, new music, same pleasure.
Martin Salemi could be a film director, one of those whose movies would be beautiful, and timeless, told by rolling images. But Martin is a pianist and his stories, full of emotions, tenderness and subtle humor, get told through a band inspired by blues, bop and a few notes of French romanticism. A band, whose music is a jazz that feels very much contemporary. After treating us to the art of the trio for the last few years, the band now welcomes saxophonist Sylvain Debaisieux and guitarist Lorenzo Di Maio. And, as a result, the landscape becomes even sharper, the colors fuller. Wordless dialogues deeper, more interesting. The quintet makes us discover the faraway plains of a dream-like Arizona, bucolic countryside spots, offers intimate moments among friends, human exchanges filled with joy and melancholy.
